Dr. Roberts is available for FAA First, Second and Third Class Medical Certificates. Dr. Roberts is a pilot, flying for more than 40 years, in Part 91 and Part 135 commercial operations and owns, operates and maintains a Cessna C182. He is active with the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Airport Advisory Group and keeps his airplane at Brainerd (BRD) where he spends too much time tinkering. He understands the demands of flying and the FAA's Aeromedical Certification Division's demands having experienced it every year as a pilot. As a seasoned pilot and a retired radiation oncologist, he is able to devote full time to helping pilots obtain and keep their medical certification, what requirements the FAA will expect if there are medical certification concerns and is happy to help answer questions related to Medical Certification, as a consultant before an actual FAA application is processed, and to complete the medical certification process, with the goal of having everyone leave the office visit with a medical certificate in their pocket and ready for the next flight. To be prepared for your medical certification exam, we ask that you prepare the applicaton and if you have any medical questions or history which might be of concern, to bring supporting documentation which may be required. On the MedXPress form (medxpress.faa.gov) you will have a series health questions to answer. In some cases, the FAA will require more information. I am happy to meet to discuss any questions on this section or on the medication section you might have as you complete this application. Some of these questions may require we defer an application for the FAA's final decision, but many do not and some may require additional information from your personal physician. Otherwise the process will be straight forward. For more information on what to expect, a good resource is available at this link: American Flyers FAA Medical Certificate: What You Need to Know when Applying Another source of information is the FAA itself in its AME Guide which is available on the internet. If you are concerned about a medical condition, this is the source of information you will need. Finally the Federal Aviation Regulations FAR Part 67 and 61 describe the medical certificates, classes and what level of certificate is needed for the various flight operations. These can be found here:
If you have a concern about meeting a qualification because of a medical history please know that the FAA does have the discretion and frequently does issue what is known as a Special Issuance, which allows the issuance of a Medical Certificate if the FAA feels they can be safely issued. So, see you soon, if you have any questions, call, and we'll see you in the air soon. To see FAA Directory for Dr Roberts, use the FAA official web site at FAA AME Look up , and select select AME for designator type and Walter Roberts for the AME.
